Where We Started

Arc Human Services supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities through a broad range of services, programs, and community activities. Its website held plenty of information, but individuals and families had to work to understand where to begin and how those services connected as their needs changed. Behind the scenes, a complicated WordPress setup relied on multiple plugins and vendors. Routine updates took too much effort, and recurring technical problems made the site difficult to maintain. Arc needed a clearer way to tell its story and a more manageable way to deliver everything its website supported.

What We Did

Working with Michael Brownlee, Director of Communication & Development, we used workshops, audience profiles, and messaging to organize the website around the people Arc serves. We clarified the relationships between services and gave newer offerings, including Smart Living, greater prominence. We retained the existing identity, strengthening its use through visual standards and tone-of-voice guidance. We redesigned and rebuilt the website in Squarespace, bringing together artwork sales, donations, membership access and renewals, event registration, payments, and space rentals. The content and technology were planned together so visitors could find what they needed and staff could manage the information and activities behind it.

What Changed

Visitors gained clearer paths to services and practical ways to register, participate, purchase artwork, and support the organization. Arc reported that publishing events, adding artwork, and handling routine website updates became easier for its team. The relationship continued beyond the website into broader strategic work, including how Arc explains its related entities and presents Smart Living to potential partners. The project established both a more useful website and a shared understanding to build on as the organization evolves.
